  The customer service people in the branch are always great. Seriously - each person I have interacted with at the branches rocks....The people on phone support are terrible.
  
  TCF is just one more bank trying to rip off everyone. I signed up for three Free Checking accounts in 2004, and just this year they switched the accounts to have a monthly maintenance charge if you have less than $1,000 average in the account. They charged me a $10/month charge and would not reverse the charge no matter what.
  
  Go with a credit union and make yourself happy. Seriously. Run.
